Today is March 8 “The International woman’s Day” and that’s why as the woman that I am behind the appellative «Art» I wanted to dedicate this moment to the reflection of what “Being a Woman” represents for each of us in the world.
I believe that for many of the women in the industrialized countries it is one day we, like in Europe, receive the yellow mimosa flowers and is celebrated between girlfriends, in organized parties. Eventually with strip-tease show and lots of buzz, as to get drunk where our way to get equal to men. For most women in male chauvinists countries like Latin-American it’s common to get this kind of treatment: «My love, today it is your day and you relax. After the meal I am going to wash the dishes and take care of the children for 2 hours”. In Africa, Middle East, China, India places where the religion and the patriarchal traditions are used as excuse of the slavery of the woman, there are women who completely do not know that they have rights and have not been born only to serve the man.
But where ever you have been born it is our duty as women, daughters, sisters, mothers-to be self aware of our life conditions and to questioning our selves if we agree with the treatment that is given us in the jobs, family and society, if we can consider them equal to the men and otherwise do something to change it.
BRIEF HISTORY OF MAY 8:
One of the many historical events that may have done March 8 to the internationals women’s day, is the death of 140 seamstress, that were burn live inside a textile-factory, in New York, 1908. The factory owner intentionally put fire to it to punish the women-workers who were claiming to the labor law of better payment and less work hours. This coincided with the spirit of socialism ideas of the beginning of the century and the engagement of American women on political and human right issues throw meetings and street-demonstrations. The common story tells the 8 March women workers marched throw New York to show their indignation for this event and solidarity with other women in bad conditions of work.
Later, the date should be proposed as the “Day of the Woman” for Clara Zetkin, German, Socialist, and Creator of the Women’s International, although there are historians who support that Clara Zetkin proposed the homage but not date.
In 1913 same day On March 8 also Bolshevik women collaborated actively in the fall of the tsar of Russia and throw rebellion manage to acquire the right to vote. So maybe is more positive to consider this day as recognition to a victory of the feminine struggle, instead of a defeat as for the women in the factory of New York.
Being a woman represent for me, a lifelong battle where I educate my self to get the tools be able to use my intelligence to show we are not less than men, in contrary we are the Omega of Creation.
GENERAL CULTURE: For the most curious and with knowledge of English I give them the history of the matriarchal ancient cultures that they were venerating the Goddess-Mother.
